The Basics
Florida has 25 Congressional districts; we're going to look at the 14th. The Representative is Connie Mack IV, a Republican (U.S. Congress members of Florida, 2006). The state, as all states, has two senators, a Republican Mel Martinez and a Democrat, Bill Nelson. Nelson is the senior senator. Since we've considered him earlier, this paper will look at Martinez.
We will first consider the history and politics of district 14 and its Representative, Connie Mack. Then we'll tackle the political history of Florida and look at the record of Mel Martinez, its junior senator.
