Most sources are in agreement that there are two major issues that will be of great importance in the 2008 election: Iraq and health care. Other issues will become apparent as the election draws closer; David Masci believes that some of them will come from what he calls the culture war (Masci, 2007). Issues that spring from the culture war transcend matters of public policy, and instead engage voters at the deeper level of their core ethical and religious values (Masci, 2007). These issues include things like abortion, the death penalty and certain types of medical research, among others (Masci, 2007).
