The subject of breast cancer is exhaustive; in a paper this short we can only cover a few points. Let's begin with some of the signs of the disease. They include a lump in the breast which is "usually single, firm, and most often painless" (Early detection, 2006). Other signs include a change in the appearance of the skin on the breast or underarm, accompanied by swelling; veins on the skin of one breast become more prominent than on the other; the nipple "becomes inverted, develops a rash, changes in skin texture, or has a discharge other than breast milk"; or a "depression is found in an area of the breast surface" (Early detection, 2006).
