...book entitled Makes Me Wanna Holler is an autobiographical account about his experiences growing up as an urban black youth in the 1970s. He was actually just a boy at the time when he first became entangled in the armed robbery business and he became a father at a young age as well. Propelled into adulthood far before his time, and perhaps long before most of his white counterparts would even begin to do their own laundry, the author does distinguish between the black experience and that of the majority. In fact, this is an important contribution to literature on the subject as McCall began as just another case of a juvenile delinquent gone awry. His social environment truly exacerbated his chances of leading a life of crime, but what he seems to reveal in his book is that it did not have to happen as it did.
