Biotechnology is something that is becoming an integral part of the economy (Sasson, 2005). The "golden era" of medical biotechnology commenced during the 1970s (Sasson, 2005). Genes for polypeptides or proteins would work as drugs and were cloned in animal or microbial cells (Sasson, 2005). Proteins would be produced as bioreactors (Sasson, 2005). Other substances would be created and commercialized such as bovine growth hormones, antihepitits vaccines and human insulin (Sasson, 2005). One can begin to see that it has only been in the past few decades that medical biotechnology has been a force to reckon with. Yet, while there have been made strides made, there have also been controversial issues.
Although biomedical technology is somewhat controversial, there have been many positive finds. Insulin is a good example. Prior to 1982, insulin had been derived from animal sources, but the FDA would approve a recombinant form...
