Introduction and Background
Dr. Douglas Ness began practicing dentistry in Anchorage, Alaska in 1991 and in 1999 opened his own practice, Aesthetic Dental Arts, Inc. As the principal of a small business, Dr. Ness has had the administrative, managerial and strategic freedom to focus on ensuring that Aesthetic Dental Arts (ADA) is a high performance organization (HPO) in every sense of the term. Achieving this goal encompasses not only developing an effective support team but selecting the right types of individuals at the outset, of course.
One of the leading goals of the business is to become (and remain) known in the local area as the "best" dental practice in the community, and to win that distinction not only among current clients but also among those who are not and have not been clients in the past. Achieving this goal accomplishes three purposes: (1) attracting additional clients from the local area; (2) attracting the highest-quality candidates for employment positions; and (3) attracting additional clients from those new to the area.
