Introduction Action must be taken to correct the serious situation where a very significant percentage of people over 50 are economically inactive. There is no bar to their employment other than an attitude by many employers that they are too old! And as my Grandfather used to chuckle in German, "We are too soon old, and too late smart."
I have chosen this personal topic, because I have had older friends who have been "rif-ed;" and definitely do not want it to happen to me.
For many, this was not an action of personal choice. The structural changes in the corporate landscapes of the last twenty years has meant that during the process of de-layering, and downsizing, these people, in "business-speak" became part of the "business improvement process." Company balance sheets were greatly enhanced...
