...following World War II It has been said that all Asian societies are fundamentally concerned with order in society; however, after World War II, many of these orderly Asian societies experienced extremes in political upheaval. China actually tried to dismantle its entire culture during the turbulent 1960s. Yet, it is true that these same Asian countries were unchanged culturally and were also extreme examples of orderly societies for centuries. Historically, China has had a great deal of influence on other Asian cultures. Since Chinese culture has been so instrumental in the development of other Asian cultures, it seems reasonable that a closer examination of Chinese culture and Chinese history before and after World War II will shed light not only on the Chinese experience, but the political upheavals which occurred elsewhere in Asia following that conflict. This examination will show that it was the often mentioned order so highly prized at the heart of Asian society that, essentially, caused the turmoil following the second world war. Confucian philosophy created a society that was too strict and too orderly and, consequently, lacked the flexibility to adapt to new ideas...
