It is an independent state and is the easternmost island of the West Indies. It lies east of Saint Vincent in the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles. The island is twenty-one miles long and fourteen miles wide at its widest part and has a total area of one hundred sixty-six square miles. Generally flat along the coast, Barbados is hillier towards the center of the island. The highest point is Mt. Hillaby, about eleven hundred feet high.
