...Howard Fast was a member of the Untied States communist party for 13 years. He joined the party in 1944 and saw many changes and witnesses many events and in 1990 he published his memoirs in relationship to his participation in the communist party. The title of the book is "Being Red" and it details many different thoughts, feelings, and occurrences in regards to this particular political party. While the personal accounts that take the reader behind the scenes are at times very fascinating and thought provoking, the majority of the book tends to glorify, with appropriate ignorance, the powers in the Soviet Union that were perhaps no better than the powers that resided in Europe, namely Germany.
