...Leader or Teacher I. Introduction The word leader could be replaced with the word teacher through out much of Warren Bennis' book On Becoming a Leader, and the content would still be applicable. Many of his major pointsluding the fact that leaders (teachers) are made, not born, and that there are common characteristics and factors that move leaders (teachers) towards success are applicable in business scenarios as well as in teaching environments. His work reads much like a teaching manual designed with re-engineering and quality management for educational change in mind, and demonstrates that some of the fundamental principles towards improvement in education are based on the same principles that have underscored improvements in the business world. Bennis' work outlines the characteristics that demonstrate leadership, consider the way in which a leader is created, the principles that direct success in leadership, and the interactions that occur when affective leadership is applied.
