...of Population and Economic Change: India and Brazil India and Brazil have been faced with the similar problems in forming their national boundaries and identities. Through the centuries, each has been occupied by various dynasties and colonizing imperialists, which has influenced and contributed to their diverse ethnicities and languages-problems which still cause internal conflict today. In this century, both have become autonomous states, and even as both are engaged in border wars with the smaller states which had at once time been a part of the larger states, the more important issue for both of these states is the effect of the neighboring economies on their states. Their neighbors may be enemies, in the case of India and Pakistan, or economic partners in the case of Brazil and Argentina, but either way achieving peace to help them pull through their economic woes is the more important issue. Through the years, those states have generally been given autonomy, although others have elected to remain tied to the larger state.
