...and practitioners moan over "scope creep," the tendency for projects to grow over time to much more involved and detailed projects than when they began. The same appears to be true with "green" buildings. In the case of the Lewis Center at Oberlin College, the goal was to produce a building that would be a net energy producer, not only meeting all of its own energy needs but also providing excess energy for the local electric utility.
Certainly that was a fine goal, but that project fell victim to scope creep as well. Those involved in the project decided that if the building was environmentally friendly, then the materials it was constructed...
