Yet, while India offers American businesses a great deal of possibilities, problems arise due to cultural differences. Kentucky Fried Chicken learned that lesson but McDonald's did not have to. McDonald's did their research before launching a couple of restaurants in this traditional country. Americans do not have a very hard time with a language barrier in India as even though Hindi is the official language, English is spoken almost everywhere (D'Onna, 1997). Even contracts are often written in English and use American law, so translators, or complicated transactions, are not necessary to the typical business liaison between firms in these two countries.
