...We can never be sure exactly what an artist is trying to say in his work; nor can we be sure we understand it in the way he or she meant us to. Amazingly enough, though, we all tend to respond to artwork; very few people can walk through a gallery without feeling some response to the displays. Art has an enduring power, and tells us a great deal about our society, since it tends to magnify and reflect it. This paper discusses the current exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and concentrates on the painting "Eddystone" by Robert Moskowitz.
