Individuals start the dating process at an earlier age, date more people, engage in sexual intimacy and sometimes enter into live-in relationships, prior to ultimately entering into a marriage (Whyte, 1990, McCormick and Clinton, 1990). Teenagers today have uniquely different views on each of these components of the courtship process than did their parents or representatives of earlier generations (Whyte, 1990, McCormick and Clinton, 1990). This paper will explore some of those views and relate them to religion and gender as well as to the concept of "power" in a relationship. To further explore the findings of Whyte (1990) and McCormick and Clinton (1990), a total of one hundred college student were administered written surveys in order to ascertain their perspectives on the courtship process.
