Two of these poems, "I felt a Funeral in my Brain" and "Because I could not stop for Death" are exemplary of this category of Dickinson's poetry. These are not uplifting poems that offer a reassurance of life after death. Rather Dickinson presents disturbing images of being aware, conscious, but nevertheless in the grave.
