He was a great philosopher and had an enormous interest in pedagogy. John Dewey lived to be over 90 years old (434). He was born in Vermont and died in New York. His works included "Ethics" (1908), "Democracy and Education" (1916), "Reconstruction in Philosophy" (1920), "Human Nature and Conduct" (1922), "The Quest for Certainty" (1929), "Experience and Nature" (1929), "Art as Experience" (1934), and "Logic: The Theory of Inquiry" (1938) (Hurley, 1999, 434). In 1879, John Dewey received an undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont (434). It was during that time that Dewey became interested in philosophy. While he was a high school teacher, Dewey was able to continue a private study of philosophy. One part of his influence that continues to be prevalent in school systems today is pragmatism.
