The Persian Gulf War was the first major conflict in twenty years which involved American troops (Schmitt, 1996). Consequently, this affair was probably one of the most televised and reported upon events in history. Americans watched the convoys of military personnel, both regular service and reserves travel across the highways of our nation en route to the various ports from which they would be shipped out to the Persian Gulf. The country was flooded with yellow ribbons, some pinned to lapels, some dangling from car antennas, some tied to the trunks of trees in the yards of those who had someone serving in the Gulf.
