These are perhaps the more commonly known health issues that haunt the African American community. However, there are some new issues that need to be addressed and changed by this particular ethnic community. African Americans need to be educated to protect themselves, as well as others, from the health problems that plague them. One of the issues is that of disabilities incurred by the African American population. Disabilities whose origins are in the work place. African Americans are much more likely to have injuries that result in permanent disablement than the Caucasian worker. This is because the African American is more inclined to have a position of employment in more physically demanding situations (Smart; Smart, 1997). They are less likely to be employed by administrative and managerial positions where conditions are far safer for the worker.
