Leukemia is a word used to describe a number of blood cancers, a condition that seems to exacerbate the white blood cell count (Visalli, 1996). Cancer is something that many fear, and it is common knowledge that leukemia is one of the dreaded forms of what has commonly been referred to as the "C" word. Many have heard of stories where childhood leukemia is diagnosed. Some of these cancers spread rapidly and while there are those cases where children die, there are some forms of the cancer where treatment is possible and the outlook is good.
