It is a general principle that a person who is a public figure (actor, politician, sports celebrity, etc.) is "fair game" and so these cartoons are not only acceptable, but a record of the way our society has changed, and the way the cartoonist's art has changed.
The Cartoons
In order to find 10 cartoons, the method was simple: input the terms "political cartoons" and a decade and see what comes up. This gives us a wide date range to work with. We'll start with a cartoon from the 1860s and then try the 1890s, and then come forward up to the present.
