This act that came forth in 1990, actually took effect in 1992 and is something that disallows employers from discriminating against any qualified individual due to disability in a variety of settings ("Facts about the Americans with Disabilities Act," 2008). While the act was passed in 1990, people with disabilities have been fighting for some time. The climate in America had changed after the Civil Rights Era. Now, it was a time for everyone to get his or her due. Perhaps the primary catalyst had been a new understanding about the capabilities of those with disabilities. Throughout the years, the disabled were shunned and it is only more recently that people with disabilities are taken seriously.
