The people of Basque country have been engaged in a struggle for freedom from Spain which has spanned over thirty years (Daly, 1999). During this war, the group has fought diligently for their goal, and in the process has been responsible for over 800 lives (Daly, 1999). The party working for separation calls themselves the ETA (a Basque-language acronym for Basque Homeland and Freedom), and it is this extreme militant group which has been responsible for the killings (Daly, 1999).
