There are many unions in the public sector today such as those for teachers and firefighters. Of course, there are many unions in the private sector as well. Still, unionism is not so powerful today, but in the past, these organizations were the initiators of labor law. Today, in this litigious society, it seems as if workers take care of themselves more and more frequently and corporations are complying with the law. While unions do exist, they are less powerful now than in the past. In some way, other organizations, like the government's safety board OSHA has been important in making sure that workers stay safe.
