Introduction
Verizon Wireless is a “joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) and Vodafone (NYSE and LSE: VOD)” (Investors, 2008) and one of the largest telecommunications providers in the world. This paper provides a SWOT analysis of the company.
Discussion
SWOT analyses are subjective by their nature, since they are basically best guesses about future accomplishments and opportunities based on past performance, which is not always a good predictor. Conditions change so quickly that some experts advise redoing a SWOT every 6-12 months. At any rate, an organization called Global Business Insights has done a SWOT on Verizon; it’s available for purchase from their website. However, they do at least give away the main points that they found for Verizon. Under strengths they show that the company holds the “leading position in key sectors,” has a “low churn rate” and strong market presence (The top 10 telecoms operators, 2006).
