Parents hesitate to let their children have the freedom to explore their neighborhoods because the fear of what dangers may lurk in the streets. Yet, paradoxically, in many cases, parents appear to have abdicated their role in teaching their children responsible behavior. Last year, during Super Bowl weekend, my sister-in-law was killed by a drunk driver, someone who used the big game as an excuse for irresponsibility. In order for society to improve, in order for more young lives not to be lost in vane, responsibility has to be taken and it is a community's law enforcement officers who lead the way.
